A new architectural fit-out and refurbishment project seeking a minimalist approach to create a sleek and modern space for a family home. The project involved the transformation of a traditional home into a contemporary space that maximised natural light and provided a sense of calm and tranquillity.
A natural pallete of woven textiles was chosen to neutralise the architectural space.
Minimalism is a popular style in contemporary home interior design, characterised by simplicity, clean lines, and a neutral colour palette. A minimalist design creates a space that is uncluttered and functional, while still providing an aesthetically pleasing environment.
Inclume began by removing all unnecessary elements, creating a clean slate to work with. The walls were painted white, and the ceilings were left exposed, highlighting the natural features of the space. The flooring was replaced with light-toned stone, adding warmth to the otherwise cool colour scheme.
The furniture chosen for the space was simple and functional, with clean lines and a minimal design aesthetic. The chairs were a light-coloured fabric with a low profile, providing ample seating without dominating the room. The coffee table was a simple design in a dark wood, contributing to the paired-back feel.
Lighting in the space was also an important consideration, and we worked with the client to form a combination of natural and artificial lighting. The large windows in the space were draped with linen, allowing natural light to diffuse into the room. Pendant lights were installed throughout the space, providing a warm glow that complemented the flooring.
Artwork was minimal, with a few select pieces strategically placed throughout the home. The selected pieces consisted of abstract paintings in muted colours that added a touch of interest to the otherwise minimalist design.
The bedrooms were designed to create a peaceful and relaxing environment, with simple furnishings and a neutral colour palette. The beds were a low-profile design, with white linens and a few select pillows for added comfort. The windows were left unadorned, allowing natural light to filter through and providing a calming ambiance. New oak joinery with built in lighting provided a warming backdrop to the rooms.
A minimalist approach to the interior design of this contemporary home created a functional and aesthetically pleasing environment. The use of clean lines, neutral colours, and functional furniture created a space that was both calming and efficient.
