Artistic and Architectural Installations Experience

At Inclume we have a passion for exploring the intersection between art, architecture and installations. Having worked with various well-known brands to create window displays in both Cambridge and London, we bring the creativity explored in our installations to all architectural projects, finding creative solutions to client briefs in order to maximise the potential of a building.

Each year we take studio visits to public exhibitions including the Serpentine Pavilion in Hyde Park, London. In the past we have also enjoyed trips to see the Dulwich Pavilion within the grounds of the Dulwich Picture Gallery and other installations as part of the London Festival of Architecture. 

We participated in the London Festival of Architecture with our Fragment window installation, for Gaggenau on Wigmore Street, between Marylebone and Mayfair in London. These festivals and installations often act as a platform for younger emerging architecture practices to exhibit on a national or international stage, and the works produced are a reflection of the designers’ values. Our window installations, including The Living Planet Installation for the Clayton Hotel as part of Cambridge Business Improvement District’s ‘Window Wanderland’, represent our commitment to using sustainable, recyclable materials in unique and interesting ways, and our interest in using shadow, depth and form to create playful and intriguing spaces and sculptures.

A good example of window displays and store interiors being used effectively are fashion, skincare and beauty brands that use these spaces as an extension of their brand values. Examples are Sézane, who model their stores on French apartments, and Aēsop, where each store has a unique interior design developed by various architects, interior designers and artists. Traditional high fashion houses such as Gucci, Hermès and Christian Dior create elaborate, bespoke decorated windows that change on a seasonal basis to attract customers and promote brand loyalty.

Our interactive installation experience extends to public sculptures such as the 8888 art installation in Cambridge, Stellar Light Art in Lincoln and Tetra, a ‘floating pavilion’. These installations were useful to establish our practice philosophy and culture, and we enjoyed working with our hands undertaking the making and installation processes ourselves, as it expanded our practical experience with materials and building techniques. Most of all, our team had fun producing them and we developed design and construction techniques that we subsequently used in our architecture work.
